I’m Amy, a Houston, Texas-based independent editor. I’m the type of person who finds this joke hilarious:If you groaned or don’t get it, don’t worry. My love of language began at an early age, and I’ve lived and breathed editing since I got my first taste of it in my high school’s newspaper class. I loved it and made it my focus in college, becoming a newspaper editor again while working on my degree in mass communication. (See my FAQs/Rates page for more background information and qualifications.)
Editing is especially crucial these days since we live in a competitive, technology-powered world. First impressions are often made by the words we write. Think about it: online job applications, resumés, books, emails, personal and professional websites, etc. Fair or not, people judge us by that content. You don’t want the months or years you spent slaving away on your debut novel to be in vain because you (unknowingly) sent an error-filled manuscript to a literary agent or publishing company. No matter what you’ve written, it’s a reflection of yourself and needs to be polished and professional.
That’s where I come in. I will thoroughly edit anything written, checking grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, consistency, and more (also known as copyediting). This is the standard but detailed level of editing that every type of writing needs. I also offer developmental editing, a big-picture kind of editing that focuses on correcting issues with and then enhancing plot, characters, dialogues, etc. (More about editing and what you can expect from me are on my FAQs/Rates page.) Use the Contact Me page to send me questions, project information, or general feedback. Tell me about what you’re working on, and I can provide suggestions and personalize an estimate for you.
