I’m Amy, a Houston-based independent editor. I’m the type of person who finds this joke hilarious:
If you groaned or don’t get it, don’t worry. I have lived and breathed editing from an early age. I got my first taste of editing in my high school’s newspaper class. All articles went through me before publishing. I loved it and made it my focus in college, becoming a newspaper copyeditor again while I worked on my degree in mass communication. (See my FAQ/Rates page for more background information.)
Editing is especially crucial these days since we live in a technology-powered world. Our first impressions are often made by the words we write. Think about it: online job applications and resumés, personal and professional websites, emails, articles, books, informative brochures, etc. Fair or not, people judge us by that content. You don’t want the years you spent slaving away on your debut novel to be in vain because you didn’t present a high-quality manuscript to a certain agent or publishing company. No matter what you’ve written, it’s a reflection of yourself and needs to be professional and polished.
That’s where I come in. I will thoroughly edit anything written, checking grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and consistency. (This is also known as copyediting.) This is the nitty-gritty, most detailed type of editing, which every type of writing can benefit from. (More about editing and what to expect from me are on my FAQ/Rates page.)
